Introduction
ARTmosterrific Residence aims at creating an inspiring and enlightening virtual space for creatives to help complete their manuscripts.
Writing and creating art can be a lonely process. And sometimes, isolation causes rapids in the flow of creativity. ARTmosterrific Residence is poised towards fostering a community of passionate artists and inspiring a camaraderie wherein creativity thrives.
We define an African undergraduate as anyone who studies in any of the African universities. Alongside studying in Africa, at least one of the parents of our ideal candidates should be African through birth or naturalization. Regardless of the course or field of study, as long as they are interested in art and literature, they are eligible. Our ideal candidates must be undergraduate students not postgraduate.
Mentorship
Mentorship is mostly based on a feedback system and doesn’t involve the mentors teaching. Each writer/artist-in-residence will be attached to a professional in their respective category. The writers/artists-in-residence will be submitting a required quota of their manuscript to their mentors weekly. With the feedback received from the mentors, writers/artists-in-residence are able to improve their current draft or apply the corrections and suggestions in their next drafts.
The mentors will also be invited week by week as in-house guests so that all the writers/artists-in-residence can have an interactive session with them.
Feedback System
The mentors are not editors. However, the feedback might include some edit notes.
The feedback can also be comments on aspects of the submitted works or suggestions on how the writers/artists-in-residence can improve their craft against their next submissions.
The drafts, if reworked, shouldn’t be submitted again to the mentors unless requested by them.
Expectations for The Writers/Artists-in-residence
Depending on the category, writers/artists-in-residence must submit at least three poems, or 2000 words of prose, or 3 photographs/arts (with at least a sentence caption) every week till they complete their manuscripts.
Each writer/artist-in-residence will send their drafts to ARTmosterrific Residence by email and to their respective mentors either by email, WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other electronic medium preferred by the mentor.
Writers/Artists-in-residence must participate in interactive sessions.
Writers/Artists-in-residence are required to train ARTmosterrific community on a skill or aspect of art and literature they like.
